ABOUT LIZ FRAZER
AND THE VOIcE STUDIO

Music is powerful and I believe that it can change lives. I was, let's just say, a troubled teen. (My parents may have less kind words about that time of my life!) And, music is what kept me going.

I was hooked starting in chorus class in the 9th grade when Ms. Beck played the movie Funny Girl starring Barbara Streisand.  As soon as I heard her sing Second Hand Rose and Don't Rain on My Parade I knew that singing was what I wanted to do with my life.  During those turbulent years of high school that followed, it was music, theater, and chorus that helped to keep me grounded. Singing saved me: it gave me purpose, it helped to give all of that youthful angst an outlet, and it gave me confidence. Music changes lives.

I'm not that angsty kid anymore, but wow, music is certainly helping me now as a middle-aged woman experiencing the pandemic. It continues to give me purpose. I'm seeing how it's giving my students a purpose. An outlet. Agency. JOY!

The music and performance world looks really different than it did a few months ago. While this is a time to grieve what has been lost, this is also a time to be #grateful. Online music lessons and classes takes distance out of the equation (and I know my students don't miss that Seattle commute!) and gives us opportunities…

I completed my Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2012, and relocated to Seattle in 2017. I’m an active teacher, performer, and choir director, and enjoy performing in a variety of styles, including opera, chamber music, and art song.
Since moving to Seattle, I’ve opened my private studio, Frazer Voice Studio, I’ve been the director of the French Choir at the Alliance Française de Seattle as well as Path With Art, I’m currently a Seattle Opera Teaching Artist, and I just started my tenure as the Puget Sound NATS Chapter President (National Association of Teachers of Singing). It’s been a busy three years! I can’t wait to see where I am in three more.
I’m a strong believer in combining body work with singing training. I’m currently partnering with a local PT, Dr. Abby Halpin, to offer classes and opportunities for singers to discover their freest voices.  I’ve also studied and practiced the Alexander Technique and Body Mapping for years, including presenting my exploratory exercises based on them at the Northwest Voice Conference.  I include these concepts in my own singing, as well as my teaching (and let me tell, it’s changed everything!).
Although classically trained, I love all types of music and have been teaching in multiple styles for 15 years.

MISSION STATEMENT
FRAZER VOIcE STUDIO

Here’s what I know...and deep down, you probably know it too:

Everyone has the potential to be better

Everyone deserves the opportunity to be better

Everyone deserves a safe community where they can take risks and explore the most creative version of themselves

Singing freely, expressively, wholly is a hell of a lot easier than you think it is (seriously!)

Access to music education is a social justice issue (affordable classes and sliding scales available)

HAPPY SINGER TESTIMONIALS

"She makes sure that you know why you sound like you do and how you can make it better. I grew so much in my time with her and I haven't met a teacher quite like her yet. I highly recommend her!"
- ELIZABETH M.
"I worked with Dr. Frazer right before my college auditions, and it made a world of difference for me. Before her, I hadn't ever taken lessons and just relied on natural talent which can only take you so far. Not only did I get accepted into both of the schools I applied to, I also received generous scholarships and an offer to audition for the opera before arriving on campus. I still use many of the techniques she's taught me to this day, and think back fondly of my time with her. If she was still in my state, I would definitely be taking lessons from her again. She is an amazing teacher, and made me comfortable but also challenged me at the same time. If you want lessons, look no further than her studio!"
